Just when you thought it was safe to focus on other things\u2026<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The Graham-Cassidy repeal of the Affordable Care Act rises from the murk and turns out to be the worst version of \u201crepeal\u201d without any \u201creplace\u201d yet.<\/span><\/p>\n

It ends Medicaid\u00a0 – Medi-Cal in California \u2013 for poor people. Ends it.<\/span><\/p>\n

It removes subsidies for lower income families and individuals. Replaces it with a small block grant that won\u2019t remotely help people.\u00a0 It removes the help for those at or under 250% of the federal poverty level (FPL) that pays for deductibles.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cuts coverage for low-income seniors and people with disabilities by 7% and institutes a cap on coverage.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ends assurances that those with pre-existing conditions won\u2019t be charged more. Now they can be. No limit to what that is.<\/span><\/p>\n

Average state cuts are 17% to 2026 then 100% cut thereafter.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cRed states\u201d will get some help. \u201cBlue\u201d states will lose massive amounts to be directed into \u201cRed\u201d states. But those states are not mandated to spend that money on health care.\u00a0 \u201cBlue\u201d states such as CA, NY etc. look to lose 25-60% of their federal supports for their people.<\/span><\/p>\n

While we don\u2019t have a Congressional Budget Office score, the basic PREMIUM increases for 2018 will AVERAGE 20% – while subsidies are removed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cuts all funding for women in family planning.\u00a0 (Abortion coverage is already NOT included per the Hyde Amendment.)<\/span><\/p>\n

Will pass with 51 votes, period. There does not seem to be much planning on discussion \u2013 it\u2019s a \u2018take it or leave it\u2019 vote that will be passed onto the House in the same way.<\/span><\/p>\n

We have until Sept. 30 to stop this. The HOUSE is \u201cat home\u201d in districts \u2013 visit, picket, call, FAX your local representatives NOW.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

This new assault on affordable health care is the most pernicious yet.
