Associations prevent California lawmakers from addressing police violence.<\/strong><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><br \/><font size=\"3\"><span><font size=\"2\"><span><strong>Read the style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0)\">\n<li><font size=\"2\"><span><font size=\"3\"><span><font size=\"2\"><span>Police unions and associations have given\u00a0<\/span><\/font><font size=\"2\"><span><strong>$5.5 million<\/strong><\/span><\/font><font size=\"2\"><span>\u00a0to candidates for California\u2019s state legislature since 2011.<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/li>\n<li><font size=\"2\"><span><font size=\"3\"><span><font size=\"2\"><span>Police unions and associations have helped fund the campaigns of\u00a0<\/span><\/font><font size=\"2\"><span><strong>118 of the 120 current California state legislators<\/strong><\/span><\/font><font size=\"2\"><span>.<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/li>\n<li><font size=\"2\"><span><font size=\"3\"><span><font size=\"2\"><span>California legislators in either party who\u00a0<\/span><\/font><font size=\"2\"><span><strong>do not support police reform bills<\/strong><\/span><\/font><font size=\"2\"><span>\u00a0receive\u00a0<\/span><\/font><font size=\"2\"><span><strong>substantially more money<\/strong><\/span><\/font><font size=\"2\"><span>\u00a0from police unions and associations than those who support reform \u2013 especially Democrats who<\/span><\/font><font size=\"2\"><span><strong>\u00a0do not support police reform bills<\/strong><\/span><\/font><font size=\"2\"><span>.<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/li>\n<li><font size=\"2\"><font size=\"3\"><span><font size=\"2\"><span>Once they help elect California\u2019s state legislators, police association lobbyists spend substantial amounts of time and money to convince them to oppose police reform \u2013 spending\u00a0<\/span><\/font><font size=\"2\"><span><strong>nine times as much as the NRA to lobby California state legislators.<\/strong><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/font><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> <font size=\"3\"><span><font size=\"2\"><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><br \/><font size=\"3\"><span><font size=\"2\"><span><em>It will take all of us to convince legislators to stand up to the police associations and pass bills that address police violence and accountability.<\/em><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><br \/><font size=\"3\"><span><font size=\"2\"><span><strong>Here\u2019s how you can make a difference today:<\/strong><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><br \/><font size=\"3\"><span><font size=\"2\"><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><br \/><font size=\"3\"><span><a size=\"2\"><span><strong>\u00a0to find your California state legislators, then call them and tell them to support four important bills:<\/strong><\/span><\/font><font size=\"2\"><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<ul style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0)\">\n<li><font size=\"2\"><span><font size=\"3\"><span><a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=201720180AB931\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><font color=\"#0563C1\" size=\"2\"><span>AB 931<\/span><\/font><\/a><font size=\"2\"><span>, a bill that would make police deadly force a last resort;\u00a0<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/li>\n<li><font size=\"2\"><span><font size=\"3\"><span><a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=201720180SB1421\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><font color=\"#0563C1\" size=\"2\"><span>SB 1421<\/span><\/font><\/a><font size=\"2\"><span>, which would make records of police misconduct public.<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/li>\n<li><font size=\"2\"><font size=\"3\"><span><a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=201720180SB1186\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><font color=\"#0563C1\" size=\"2\"><span>SB 1186<\/span><\/font><\/a><font size=\"2\"><span>, which would create limits on the acquisition of police surveillance technologies<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/font><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> <font
